Monday, 06 January 2020 15:59

A mean temperature of 5.6 °C marks the month of December 2019 as an unusually warm December. Compared to the long term mean temperature from 1981 to 2010, the temperature was elevated by 1.6 K. The maximum daily temperature of 16.1 °C was measured on 16th December. It represents a continuation of a row of mild Decembers apart from 2011. Mild December temperatures are associated with strong low pressure system which warm up while travelling over the Atlantic ocean before reaching the land masses of Europe.
